Manufacturing shoes is a trade, so we use many terms that may require additional explanation. Here you will find all of the features of our shoes and accessories.

  • A

    • Achilles protection

      Extra thick zone in the sock that protects the Achilles tendon and heel from painful blows. The better distribution of pressure also ensures that you won’t tire as easily.
    • Airflow

      Openwork channels ensure optimum ventilation. Feet stay pleasantly cool and dry, and blisters don’t stand a chance.
    • Amicor Pure (acryl)

      A soft and strong acrylic fibre with anti-bacterial and anti-fungal features, leading to a reduction in perspiration odour.
    • Ankle protection

      Extra thick zone to protect the ankle from pressure and impact.
    • Ankle support

      Extra reinforced zone to support the ankle and ensure a perfect fit.
    • Anti-bacterial

      Fibres that kill bacteria keep unpleasant odours away.
    • Anti-penetration plate (insert)

      Steel or composite element in the sole of the shoe that offers protection from penetration by sharp objects through the sole.
    • Anti-static

      Shoes or socks with electrical resistance between 0.1 and 1000 MegaOhm (MΩ), measured according to EN 20344: 2011 5 10. These may be worn in many different work environments.
    • Arch support

      Extra reinforced zone to support the arch, prevents socks from sliding around. Perfect fit.
    • Arch support zone

      Better distribution of pressure thanks to support to the arch, reduces fatigue and prevents burning sensation in the feet.

    • Bekinox (metal fibre)

      The addition of RVS fibres (Bekinox) to the yarn gives the sock electrically conductive properties.
    • BOA

      Thanks to this quick-lacing system, you can put your shoes on and remove them again quickly, and you don’t have to worry about untied laces.

    • Calf protection

      Protects the calf and distributes pressure among the muscles. Comfortable to wear and keeps you fit longer.
    • Comfort Seam

      The toe area of the sock is perfectly smooth, without an irritating seam, for even more wearing comfort.
    • Composite plate

      Composite element in the sole of the shoe that offers protection from penetration by sharp objects through the sole. Metal-free.
    • Cool Comfort®

      A three-dimensional woven lining material that, thanks to its shape and material properties, transports perspiration moisture from the foot to the outside of the shoe. Keeps feet cool and dry.
    • Cotton

      A natural fibre originating from the cotton plant. Absorbs moisture easily and retains it for a long time. Soft and cool to the touch. Since we use long cotton fibres, the material doesn’t pill. The combination with Pro-Cool ensures cool, dry feet.
    • Crazy Horse leather is a type of Pull up leather. Oil is applied under pressure at high temperature to achieve a rugged finish.

      Elastic polyurethane foam ensures good, shock-absorbing properties during a longer period of time.

    • ESD

      Shoes and socks with electrical resistance between 0.1 and 100 (MΩ), measured according to BS EN 61340-4-3: 2002 (IEC 61340-4-3:2001).
    • EVA

      Ethylene Vinyl Acetate is a lightweight elastomeric material that is used in a foam form in shoes.

    • Flex fit

      The flexible instep distributes pressure and prevents annoying creases in the sock.
    • Forefoot cushion zone

      The flexible instep distributes pressure and prevents annoying creases in the sock.
    • Full-grain leather

      Leather in which the outer layer has an imprinted or smooth finish. The bottom layer makes it sturdy and highly absorbent. Full-grain leather is breathable, water-repellent and wear-resistant.

    • GORE-Tex

      The lightweight, fast-drying GORE-TEX® laminate is 100% waterproof and at the same time, breathable.
  • H

    • Heat-resistant (HRO)

      Can withstand a temperature of 300° Celsius (HRO according to the norm) for a certain period of time.
    • Heel & toe protection

      Extra reinforcement to protect the heel and toes which also extends the life of the sock.
    • Heel cushion zone

      Extra thick zone for shock absorption during heel impact. This lowers the burden on the heel, reducing fatigue.

    • Lambswool (shrink-proof)

      A high-quality animal fibre that even keeps feet warm in humid conditions. We only use “superwash” lambswool so that the socks are machine washable (wool setting on the wash machine). Our socks with Zirpro lambswool are also flame-retardant.
    • Leg support

      This elastic shaft offers extra support, stimulating circulation at the same time. Comfortable to wear and keeps you fit longer.
    • LiquiCell pads

      Thanks to these membranes, your feet don’t shift as much, reducing irritation and heat build-up. In other words, cooler, fitter feet.
    • Lycra (elastane)

      An extremely elastic fibre. Prevents the sock from slipping down, ensures a proper fit, and provides support.

    • Moisture management

      Dry, protected feet thanks to the combined effect of different materials and designs that transport perspiration moisture away from the foot.
  • N

    • Nappa leather

      A thin yet strong leather that is used for wear-resistant linings.
    • Nubuck leather

      Full-grain leather that is buffed on the top. Sturdier than suede. Feels soft to the touch and is water-repellent thanks to treatment with oil.
    • Nylon Mesh

      An open, woven textile construction that is used in the shaft in combination with leather for breathability.
  • O

    • Outsole

      The bottom of the shoe, the part that comes in contact with the ground. Different materials have different properties, such as grip and wear-resistance.
  • P

    • Polyamide

      A very strong yarn that prevents rapid wear on the heel and toe of the sock.
    • Polypropylene

      An extremely lightweight yet strong fibre.
    • Pro-Cool (polyester)

      A polyester fibre that is incorporated into all Cool socks. The special clover-shaped structure ensures that perspiration moisture from the foot is transported to the inner lining of the shoe. Feet feel comfortably dry, and blisters don’t stand a chance
    • Pronounced heel

      A clear heel shape in the sole of the shoe. This ensures better grip than a flat sole (such as that often found with many sneaker models). A heel is an absolute must if you frequently work on ladders or walk up and down stairs.
    • PU outsole

      Outsole made from lightweight and flexible polyurethane.

    • Quick fastening

      Thanks to this quick-fastening system, you can put your shoes on and remove them again quickly, and you don’t have to worry about untied laces.

    • Rubber outsole

      Outsole made from rubber, manufactured in three different densities. Heat-resistant to 300°C (EN 20345).
  • S

    • Saran open structure

      The sturdy, open 3D structure creates space between the foot and the sole for maximum air circulation. Less heat and moisture around the foot means cooler, less vulnerable feet and a more comfortable feeling.
    • SeaCell Active

      A cellulose fibre with integrated algae that nourishes the feet with proteins, vitamins and carbohydrates. Not only do feet stay fit, but unpleasant odours are also kept at bay thanks to the application of silver in the fibre.
    • Shank

      A shank in the sole of the shoe that provides support to the arch and ensures that the shoe bends in the right place. This means that your feet will not tire as quickly.
    • Shaped Fit

      Left and right sock each have their own anatomically formed insole. For optimum wearing comfort.
    • Shinbone protection

      A thicker zone protects the shinbone from pressure and impact, and keeps legs comfortably warm.
    • Shock absorption

      A somewhat thicker zone at the heel, sole of the foot and toes for extra protection and support, and even more wearing comfort.
    • Silver

      Fibres into which silver is woven have excellent anti-bacterial properties, effectively fighting perspiration odours. The conductive properties make them suitable for ESD environments, even after having been washed repeatedly.
    • Steel plate

      Steel element in the sole of the shoe that offers protection from penetration by sharp objects through the sole.
    • Steel toecap

      Protects toes from falling or rolling objects.
    • Suede

      A split leather, the outer layer of which is lightly sanded, making it soft to the touch. The bottom layer makes it sturdy and absorbent.
    • Suede-tec

      A synthetic material that is pleasant to the touch and wear-resistant, thus providing long-term comfort.
  • T

    • Thermolite (polyester)

      A polyester fibre with a hollow core, resulting in extremely effective insulation. Thanks to the large surface area on the exterior of the fibre, moisture is easily transported away, and can evaporate quickly.
    • Toe cap

      An extra wear-resistant material on the toecap of the shoe protects it from excessive wear. This is particularly handy if you must kneel or crawl on a regular basis, or the toecap of your shoe often knocks into objects.
    • Toe protection

      Extra reinforcement and protection for toes.
    • TPU outsole

      Outsole made from thermoplastic polyurethane. Extremely wear-resistant but not suitable for hot surfaces.

    • Vent-air

      Moisture-resistant fibre treated to create a double-layer construction combined with a porous foam layer. This double layer between the foot and the material on the outside of the shoe keeps feet dry and comfortable.
    • Vent-air zone

      The space between the foot and the sole ensures maximum air circulation. Less heat and moisture around the foot means cooler, less vulnerable feet and a more comfortable feeling.
    • Ventilating textile

      The knitted texture results in a very breathable textile.

    • Water-absorbent (WRU)

      Capable of absorbing perspiration moisture in lining and uppers. Result: dry feet.
    • Waterproof (WRU)

      The material prevents water from getting in for a certain period of time, keeps feet dry.
    • Water-resistant (WR)

      The shoe prevents water from getting in for a certain period of time; feet stay dry.
    • Widths

      Different lengths and widths make it possible to adapt the fit optimally to the wearer’s foot. The difference in width occurs primarily at the front of the foot.
